Chris Voss is a former FBI hostage negotiator and the founder of the Black Swan Group, a negotiation consulting firm. Over a 24-year career with the FBI, Voss rose to become the bureau's lead international kidnapping negotiator, drawing on experience negotiating with bank robbers, gang leaders, and terrorists. After leaving the FBI in 2007, he began teaching negotiation at business schools including Georgetown, Harvard, MIT Sloan, and Northwestern's Kellogg School. His 2016 book, Never Split the Difference, co-written with Tahl Raz, translates his hostage-negotiation techniques, including tactical empathy and calibrated questions, into strategies for business deals, salary negotiations, and everyday conflict, and has become one of the most widely recommended negotiation books published in the past decade.
