Dan Brown (born June 22, 1964) is an American author best known for his Robert Langdon series of thrillers centered on symbology, religious history, and conspiracy, most notably The Da Vinci Code (2003), which sold more than 80 million copies and was translated into 44 languages. Brown taught English at Phillips Exeter Academy before turning to writing full-time, and his novels, including Angels & Demons, Inferno, and Origin, blend fast-paced plotting with real art, architecture, and historical detail, often sparking public debate over their more speculative claims about religious history. Three of his Langdon novels have been adapted into major Hollywood films starring Tom Hanks. Brown has said his interest in codes and puzzles began with his father, a mathematics teacher, and his novels remain among the best-selling thriller franchises of the past two decades.
