David Goggins is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL, ultra-endurance athlete, and former world record holder for the most pull-ups completed in 24 hours. After an overweight and difficult childhood, Goggins transformed himself to pass Navy SEAL training, becoming one of the few servicemembers to complete SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training. He later turned to ultra-distance running and endurance racing as a new frontier for testing his limits, competing in some of the most demanding events in the sport. His 2018 memoir, Can't Hurt Me, co-written with journalist Adam Skolnick and self-narrated in an audiobook that mixes scripted chapters with unscripted conversation, became a publishing phenomenon built almost entirely on audiobook word of mouth. His follow-up, Never Finished, continued the same format and message: that most people stop long before they reach their actual physical and mental limits.
