Freida McFadden is the pen name of Sara Cohen, an American author and physician who treats brain disorders. McFadden kept her real identity secret for more than two decades of publishing thrillers while continuing to practice medicine, revealing in 2025 that she is Dr. Sara Cohen, in part because the demands of both careers had become overwhelming and she had stepped back from full-time medical practice. Her 2022 novel The Housemaid, a psychological thriller about a woman who takes a job with a wealthy family harboring dark secrets, became a viral bestseller and was adapted into a 2025 film starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, which McFadden has said she loved, joking to her husband that it was "better than the book." She continues to write clinical shifts occasionally while working primarily as a full-time novelist.
