Lee Child is the pen name of Jim Grant, a British author born in 1954 and best known as the creator of Jack Reacher, a former U.S. Army military police major turned drifter and vigilante who has appeared in more than two dozen novels beginning with Killing Floor (1997). Child worked for two decades in British television production before being made redundant in a corporate restructuring, prompting him to write his first novel at age 40. The Reacher series, built around a self-contained hero who wanders from town to town righting wrongs with a mix of tactical expertise and blunt force, has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide and been adapted into two films and an Amazon Prime television series starring Alan Ritchson. Child handed primary writing duties for the series to his younger brother, Andrew Child, in the early 2020s, continuing to co-write newer installments.
