Liane Moriarty (born November 15, 1966, in Sydney, Australia) is an Australian author known for contemporary fiction exploring the hidden complexities behind ordinary suburban lives, frequently centered on a crime or mysterious death. After working in advertising and marketing, Moriarty earned a master's degree at Macquarie University in Sydney, writing her first novel, Three Wishes, as part of the degree in 2003. She has since written ten novels that have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and been translated into 40 languages, becoming the first Australian author to debut at #1 on the New York Times Best Seller list. Four of her novels, Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, The Last Anniversary, and Apples Never Fall, have been adapted into television series, with Big Little Lies (2017) winning multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for its HBO adaptation starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. Moriarty lives in Sydney with her husband and two children.
