Matt Haig is a British author known for blending speculative fiction with candid writing about mental health. His 2020 novel The Midnight Library, about a woman who explores the infinite lives she might have lived, became an international bestseller and was named Goodreads' Best Fiction Book of 2020. Haig's 2015 memoir Reasons to Stay Alive, his first nonfiction work, recounts his experience with severe depression and anxiety beginning at age 24, including a period he has described as coming close to taking his own life, and has been widely credited with opening candid public conversation about male mental health. He has written extensively for both adults and children, including How to Stop Time and the Boy Called Christmas series, and continues to write and speak publicly about depression and anxiety alongside his fiction.
