Matthew McConaughey (born November 4, 1969) is an American actor who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club (2013), part of a career resurgence dubbed the "McConaissance" after years of romantic-comedy roles. Beyond acting, McConaughey published the memoir Greenlights in 2020, structured around diary entries, poems, and aphorisms he had collected over decades, organized loosely around the idea of recognizing the "greenlights" in life that keep you moving forward even through setbacks. The book became a #1 New York Times bestseller, with McConaughey's self-narrated audiobook edition frequently singled out as capturing his distinctive drawl and storytelling voice in a way the printed page cannot fully convey. He teaches as a professor of practice at the University of Texas at Austin, his alma mater.
