Michelle Obama (born January 17, 1964) is an American attorney and author who served as First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Raised on the South Side of Chicago, she graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School before working as a lawyer and later in public health and community outreach roles in Chicago. Her 2018 memoir, Becoming, sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and became one of the best-selling memoirs of all time, tracing her path from her childhood through her years in the White House. She followed it with The Light We Carry in 2022, focused on tools for navigating uncertainty and change. Obama self-narrates her audiobooks, and her recording of Becoming won the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album in 2020.
