Tara Westover is an American author whose 2018 memoir Educated recounts her upbringing in a survivalist family in rural Idaho, where she did not attend school until she was seventeen, and her subsequent path to a PhD from the University of Cambridge. Westover taught herself enough mathematics and grammar to pass the ACT college entrance exam, later studying at Brigham Young University before earning a scholarship to Cambridge and a visiting fellowship at Harvard.
