Kate Mulgrew is an American actress and author, best known for originating the role of Captain Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, the first woman to lead a Star Trek series as captain, and for her acclaimed performance as Galina "Red" Reznikov on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, Mulgrew began her career on the daytime soap opera Ryan's Hope before moving into a long, wide-ranging career across television, film, and stage. As an audiobook narrator, she is best known for her performance of Joe Hill's NOS4A2, a nearly twenty-hour recording widely singled out by listeners and critics as one of the most fearless single-narrator horror performances in the format, with her husky, commanding voice carrying both the novel's young heroine and its sepulchral villain, Charlie Manx, without ever blurring the two. Mulgrew has also published two memoirs, Born with Teeth and How to Forget, both of which she narrated herself.
