Roy Dotrice (1923–2017) was a British actor whose narration of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series set a Guinness World Record for the most character voices performed by a single narrator in an audiobook, 224 distinct voices in A Game of Thrones alone. A veteran stage and screen actor with a career stretching back to the 1950s, Dotrice brought a chronicler's gravity to Martin's sprawling fantasy saga, and his recordings remain, for many longtime fans, the definitive audio version of the series, so much so that when illness affected a later recording, fan campaigns pushed for his return. Dotrice continued acting and narrating into his nineties, and his work on the series is frequently cited alongside Jim Dale's Harry Potter and Stephen Fry's Sherlock Holmes as among the medium's most significant single-narrator achievements.
