Where the Crawdads Sing
A novel that sold over twenty million copies invites suspicion β surely nothing is that gβ¦
Delia Owens (born April 4, 1949) is an American author, zoologist, and conservationist best known for her 2018 debut novel Where the Crawdads Sing. Owens grew up in southern Georgia and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in zoology from the University of Georgia and a PhD in animal behavior from the University of California, Davis. Before turning to fiction, she spent twenty-three years conducting wildlife research in remote regions of Africa, studying lions, hyenas, and elephants, and co-authored three internationally bestselling nonfiction books about that experience, including Cry of the Kalahari. Drawing on her scientific background and deep familiarity with wilderness and isolation, Owens wrote Where the Crawdads Sing, which topped the New York Times bestseller list for over 100 weeks and was adapted into a 2022 film produced by Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine. She has won the John Burroughs Award for Nature Writing.
