De Ocampo's Alex is the engine, fast, wry, Texan-inflected, running at the character's exact caffeinated frequency, and his Henry is the achievement: a soft, precise RP that thaws by degrees, making the emotional reveals land like sunrise. He handles a large political-family ensemble cleanly, and his comic timing on McQuiston's banter is superb. The email chapters, the book's heart, are delivered with a tenderness that made them, for many listeners, better in audio than on the page.
Well narrated? De Ocampo's dual-accent tenderness is the definitive version of a modern rom-com landmark. Escapist, funny, sincere, and genuinely moving, the feel-good listen on our romance shelf, with an adult-content note attached.
